A HISTORY OF TANKARDSTOWN MINE
In the centre of the Copper Coast Geopark near Bunmahon is an old 19th century mining complex. Here, as in other parts of the British Empire, copper was mined. The foundation walls of the mine above the main shaft, the engine house, a chimney and fragments of a building in which the steam engine was located can still be seen. The mining area is freely accessible. It is also worth taking a look at the imposing coastal section with steep cliffs and free-standing rocks on the other side of the road.
